  • Riesling was first planted in Australia in 1817.
  • The oldest vines being used today are from the Pewsey Vale Vineyard in Eden Valley.
  • Germany has more than 23,000 hectares of Riesling planted and 11 different classifications.
  • Riesling is the third most planted white varietal with 3,190 hectares planted after Chardonnay (15,298 h) & Semillon (5,301 h) in Australia.
  • The most outstanding regions for Riesling in Australia are Eden Valley, Clare Valley, Tasmania and Great Southern.
