  • ​Pinot Noir is French for Pine (cone) Black.
  • It's grown in 27 different countries.
  • The first mention of Pinot Noir was by Columella who talks about it growing in Burgundy in the 1st century CE.
  • Pinot Noir is the big brother to Pinot Gris/Grigio (grey) and Pinot Blanc (white). Both the Gris/Grigio and Blanc are colour mutations of the Noir.
  • The most expensive bottle of wine in the world in a Pinot Noir from Burgundy called Domaine de la Romanee Conti valued at aprox $16,000.
  • The average grape price in Australia is $565 per tonne, but Pinot Noir averages at $884 per tonne.
